CoronaVirus (COVID-19): What you need to know

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Government Guidelines must be followed at all times.

The government has released guidance and support measures specifically for businesses and employers related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and this will be updated regularly.

A package of measures is available to support businesses including:

  • Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme
  • Self-employment Income Support Scheme
  • deferring VAT and Income Tax payments
  • a Statutory Sick Pay relief package for SMEs
  • a 12-month business rates holiday for all retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England
  • small business grant funding for all business in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief
  • grant funding for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
  • the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme
  • the HMRC Time To Pay Scheme

Support for Employers to keep paying their staff

All UK employers will be able to access support to continue paying part of their employees’ salary for those employees that would otherwise have been laid off. HMRC are working urgently to set up a system for reimbursement. They expect the first grants to be paid within weeks, and are aiming to get it done before the end of April.
